Rai Radio 1

Rai Radio 1 is Italian public radio station owned by Rai. The station broadcasts news, sports, talk shows and popular music programmings.

History[]

His date of birth can be traced back to the first Italian radio broadcast, which took place at URI (Unione Radiofonica Italiana) on the wavelength of 425 meters, which took place on October 6, 1924 with the voice of Ines Viviani Donarelli (although it had long been attributed to Maria Luisa Boncompagni).

In 1944 EIAR (Ente Italiano per le Audizioni Radiofoniche) became RAI (Radio Audizioni Italiane). In 1950, with the reform and restructuring of the three radio broadcasts, it changed to Primo Programma. With the new reform of 1975 it will assume the new name of Rai Radio 1.

Since 2002 it has been the only Italian broadcaster with permission to transmit in amplitude modulation in the medium wave band, under the name of Radio OM Unica, and it remains, along with very few other regional broadcasters, one of the few broadcasters in Italy to exploit this transmission technique. His schedule varies slightly compared to those in FM and digital.

On 17 September 2012 the medium wave station installed in Naples-Marcianise (CE) - 657 kHz is permanently shut down. Subsequently in the winter period of the following year, the coverage in medium waves of the first Rai radio station will be drastically reduced, passing from a presence of about 60 plants in 2011, to one of only 13 plants (including the repeater of the Rai station in Slovenian for Trieste) today.
